LAO 704 - LUANG PRABANG FLASH - 3 days/ 2 nights

For people with less time, but who are eager to gain just an impression about Laos. For this reason Luang Prabang is the perfect place to visit. An ancient royal town surrounded by mountains at the junction of the Mekong and Khan River. The city has a lot of historical and cultural landmarks which are beautiful and unspoiled by the modern world.

DAY 1 LUANG PRABANG

Arrival in the afternoon. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. For the rest of the day take a tour through the former royal town on the banks of the Mekong River. Visit main temples, such as Wat Visounarat and Wat Aham, which were mostly built in 16th-18th century. A highlight is definitely Wat Xieng Thong, the most beautiful of all. Then visit Phousy Hill for overlooking the town and watch the sunset. Afterwards transfer back to your hotel for overnight. Time to explore Luang Prabang's little night market.

DAY 2 LUANG PRABANG

After breakfast take a boat trip up stream on the Mekong River to visit the famous caves of Thum Ting with it's many Buddha statues. It's located at the place where the Ou River flows in to the Mekong. On the way back short stopover at Ban Xanghai, were rice wine distillation can be seen. Then turn back to Luang Prabang. After lunch excursion by car to visit the famous waterfall of Kuangsi. On route visit a Hmong hill tribe village. Take a stroll around the waterfall area and enjoy the nature. Late afternoon return to the city. Opportunity to visit the colorful local market. Overnight.

DAY 3 LUANG PRABANG

In the morning, visit the National Museum, better known as former king's palace. Then transfer to airport for departure...or extend your stay in Luang Prabang, depend on your further schedule.

HOW TO GET TO LUANG PRABANG:

From/to Chiang Mai daily (except Wednesday) by Thai Airways or Lao Airlines. Flight time is one hour. Air fare is US$ 70.- to 80.- per way, depends on the airline. From/to Bangkok daily by Bangkok Airways. Flight time is 2 hours incl. short stop at Sukothai. Air fare is approx. US$ 120.- per way. From/to Sukothai daily by Bangkok Airways. It takes one hour and air fare is approx. US$ 120.- per way. From/to Vientiane daily by Lao Airlines. Flight time is 45 minutes and the air fare is approx. US$ 70.-.
